I am really excited to be featured in a book for the very first time! I want to give a big thank you to the awesome Deborah Farone for asking me to be one of her “industry experts” in her terrific hot-off-the-presses Practicing Law Institute book on Best Practices in Law Firm Business Development and Marketing where I gave tips on social media and content marketing.
In the book, I discussed why social media and content marketing is such an important branding and lead generation tool for law firms. I also gave pointers on how to take your social media strategy to the next level using the show versus tell concept (which is the idea of showing someone how great you are at what you do with actual examples versus telling them). Here’s a sneak peek and more information on how to buy the book.
The key points I make in Deborah’s book focus on ensuring that your content is always value-added, helpful and client-centric. Essentially all of the things that many of you have heard me say over and over in all of my writing and talks. So, don’t just tell your clients why you are the very best lawyers, show them. I also talked about the fact that it’s important to always keep in mind that often, your clients are not lawyers so you should throw the legalese and legal jargon out the window and write with them in mind. Always put yourself in their shoes.
Finally I focused on the fact that when it comes to all law firm marketing efforts, clients want to know who you are and how you can help them. You can use your social media and content marketing, to help you convey that and demonstrate that you are a leader in your field in a non-boastful way.
This book is a must-read for law firms of all sizes and marketers of all levels. There are insights from a number of other LMA members in the book as well. The book covers all aspects of law firm business development and marketing. I have just skimmed my copy, and I can’t wait to delve deeper into my copy. What an accomplishment to publish a book, and I am wishing Deborah all of the success in the world with it. I am sure you will see another post on her book on my blog (and maybe even an interview!), so stay tuned.
