Valentine’s Day can be a tricky holiday for some people.

It’s not just a day about romantic love. It’s a Hallmark holiday in my opinion – your significant other should be great to you 365 days out of the year.

Valentine’s Day can be about the love we have for our family, friends, our pets, our jobs, our communities and most importantly, ourselves.

Remember that your worth is not tied to your relationship status, especially on one day out of the year. Feel empowered by your life.

People tend to post their highlights on social media, Valentine’s Day is certainly no exception. Other people’s lives are never as perfect as they look.

Like my life with my ex for example. I was miserable with him in general but felt trapped. I remember the last Valentine’s Day we spent together, he gave me a bottle of wine in addition to an elaborate bouquet of roses. The wine confirmed to me just how much he didn’t get me. It was so impersonal and not thoughtful. Our relationship lasted only a few months longer. It was a house of cards.

Family is love

The love you have for yourself is the most important love you should have and will help bring great things into your life. So always be kind to yourself. Self-love and self-care are tantamount to your well-being and success.

Don’t compare yourself to others – you never know what’s going on behind closed doors. My relationship looked perfect from the outside but it was nothing even close to that in reality.

Don’t waste time thinking about what could have been – if it was supposed to be, it would have been. Don’t have any regrets.

Keep positive – Valentine’s Day says nothing about what real love is – real love is celebrated and treasured every single day.

Give yourself some extra love today and remind yourself how much love you have all around you whether you’re in a relationship or not.

A great idea for a social media post would be to post about something or someone you love. Take the time to show love to people for whom you are grateful.

Here’s a picture of my two grumpy little valentines. I’m sending you all much love today.
