Happy New Year and welcome back to your overflowing inbox, long list of to-dos and guilt over the resolutions you and I have already broken!

Before you have that ninth cup of coffee to make it through the day, remember to give yourself grace over the next few days as we come back from the holidays and face the reality of all we have to do.

Some of us were sick for part of the break or had travel hiccups, which threw a wrench into our plans.

Everyone is in the same boat.

Everyone is catching up on work and checking their overflowing emails.

Everyone has a little bit of the post-holiday blues.

Everyone has a little bit of seasonal depression. I for one I’m not nearly as motivated to do all of the things I could possibly do when the sun sets so early.

They aren’t as focused on you as you think.

So do the most important things first. Put in 100% on those projects and then get some other things off your plate that are weighing on you. Your good is good enough!

But most of all, just be kind to yourself. That’s how you start off the new year on the right foot.

Be thankful you have emails to return, a job that pays the bills and people who want to hear from you.

Set some intentions and goals for the things you want to accomplish and reward yourself when you do them. Being kind to yourself really works. We’re often kind to everybody else except ourselves.

2023 is a new chapter, a new opportunity to begin again. And if you didn’t feel motivated to do so yesterday, that’s okay!

Every day is a new opportunity to begin again.

You don’t have to start at the beginning of the year. You can start whenever you want.

Being kind to ourselves is the most effective thing we can do to motivate ourselves to make the changes we need to make to accomplish our goals.

But remember, we can make changes at any point. The start of a new calendar year is just a reminder to take action. Set a few intentions and goals and outline the steps you will take to make them happen.

What are you going to do to prioritize yourself this year?
