I didn’t realize how much I missed getting dressed for work. We may have the best of both worlds now with many companies going hybrid.
I’m going into my law firm office a couple days a week now and so I had to dust off my law firm work clothes (which were in the storage unit of my building).
While many of my clothes no longer fit because of my Covid weight gain, they brought me back to great memories of collaborating with clients, colleagues and the way things were before the pandemic. It’s hard to believe how much is changed in two years.
For the first few months of the pandemic I only wore workout clothes, then when my Covid weight gain happened, it was more about sweats and athleisurewear.
I eventually upgraded to a more appropriate Zoom wardrobe of business casual on the top and comfortable on the bottom (meaning leggings from Target), which I still do today when working from home.
At first wearing casual clothes every day felt like playing hooky from school or the freedom I felt when I first went to college. But it wore off fast.
I wasn’t taking good care of myself in the early days of the pandemic, I was eating too much, not working out as much as I used to and putting minimal effort into the way I looked and it affected every aspect of my life – maybe you can relate.
Dressing up for me makes me feel better about myself. It makes me feel more confident. When I feel more confident, I am more confident. I smile more. I present better.
I’ve always tried to match my style to my personality but I’ve forgotten what that is after this long forced haitus. I do remember I love wearing bold shoes or a bold statement piece of jewelry.
I’m so much productive working from home and I like the flexibility of my life, but I do miss going in the office sometimes and the way things were.
So for me, getting dressed up to go to the office and looking professional makes me feel more professional. (Although the second I get home I go right back to those comfy sweats.)
I don’t have a lot of time to get ready so this work uniform has been working well for me (these pants are elastic waist!) Comfort is most important to me now.
I could definitely get used to this “new normal” – this hybrid law firm environment where we get the best of both worlds.
What is your work uniform? And are you also enjoying getting dressed up for work?
