It can be hard to motivate when the world has shut down for the most part and we don’t know when it will end and we are mostly stuck at home. We are the lucky ones if that’s all we have to do – I know a few people battling for their lives right now in the hospital.
If you’re like me and hate change and love routines, all of this can add major anxiety to your life. I live in NYC the epicenter of the crisis in the United States and it is difficult to be here when the city that never sleeps is on hold for the foreseeable future – the only way we can slow the spread of COVID-19.
Here are a few small actions you can take to help you regain a sense of control, help others and calm your anxiety. You can do many of these online. We are all in this together.
To-do list for today (do these by Zoom, email or FaceTime and keep a journal):
- give someone a compliment
- let go of what I can’t control
- productive yet calm
- stay away from drama
- enjoy the little things
- keep an open mind
- count my blessings
- listen to my heart
- help others in need
- donate what you no longer need
- practice kindness
- breathe deeply
- smile more
- love your pet
