New hires are still happening despite the pandemic, and if you are planning to do a #socialmedia post or press release to announce their arrival, you’ll want to choose your words carefully to be sensitive to market conditions and also be professional.

One of the crucial steps is having a professional headshot, which isn’t so easy right now due to social distancing and budget concerns.

I have a solution.

Ask them to send you a photo of themselves they really like. If they don’t have one, ask them to have a family member take it or take a photo of themselves using a simple smartphone tripod with a remote control.

Then use one of the great photo editing apps to edit and refine the background. You can see from below my original photo and then all of the backgrounds available in the two user friendly apps I love. With just a few clicks, you can create a professional headshot as I did below. Just don’t use the Tiger King one!

You can also smooth out imperfections (trust me I do not look like this during quarantine) and lighting. If I can do it, you can.
