The social media posts where I share anything with my personal life, my puppies (seen here in their tropical storm chic) or a challenge I’ve faced do better than anything I post with helpful tips.

I think this is because people do business with people they know, like and trust. When you use social media to strictly talk about business, you’re missing the entire point of LinkedIn because at the end of the day, B2B buyers are still humans!

How would they get to know you by looking at vanilla LinkedIn posts about client alerts, white papers and webinars?

They wouldn’t.

Thats why it’s so important to supplement those posts with content that helps people get to know you – and yes even on LinkedIn.

Storytelling and getting to know each other on a deeper level really works in your content marketing and social media efforts.

You can share things without sharing too much if you’re nervous about how to use storytelling without getting too personal.

Start posting a mix of content types and content topics and featuring softer side news and your employees.

People connect with you more when you share stories. It makes your content personal and unique, and makes you more memorable.

You can share business content through a personal lens – find a storytelling hook – maybe it’s why you got into your field, a challenge you faced, how you accomplished something – adding these details helps you stand out.

Try it and let me know how it goes!
