Jahna Barbar is a Woman Who Wows for many reasons – she has a successful career as the regional Marketing & Business Development Manager at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, she dedicates her time to volunteering for the Legal Marketing Association, where she has held multiple leadership roles, and she is a role model for women in many ways.
I met Jahna though our mutual work for the LMA, and I was immediately impressed with her – she was not only smart, but she was kind and she has the wholehearted enthusiasm for what she does – whether in the office or in her volunteer work that I recognize in myself. She is the kind of person who gives 200% to everything she does. I’ve seen her support other women and be an advocate for future leaders, and that’s a trait that we need more than ever today. Any advice to young women who want to succeed in the workplace?
Constantly be curious. I think it’s important to remain curious in whatever job or role you have. Curiosity breeds excellence. The more you ask, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more can excel at any role.
What advice would you give to women in your field?
Read. I am constantly reading articles, lists, white papers and books. Topics vary from legal marketing to finance to litigation trends to management practices to mindfulness. Information is being pushed out at a rapid rate. Take advantage of that!
What do you love most about what you do?
I love when the “a-ha” moment happens with an attorney. When someone sees the value in what you’re trying to accomplish with them. It could happen after pitch meeting prep. It could happen at a networking event. It could happen after winning an RFP you spent countless hours tailoring for the prospective client. It could be at a meeting you’re running during a partnership retreat. When this happens, you’ve gained a champion for life.
