Many businesses don’t realize the importance of building an email list.
Emails are the most direct and reliable way of getting in touch with your client and prospects.
Every internet user has at least one email account. A recent research conducted by Radicati found that there 3.8 billion active email accounts. That’s half the population of Earth!
It’s so important to continuously build your email list, even before you are ready to launch a campaign.
- Email is personal
- Email is purposeful
- Email is targeted
- You own your email list
- People use email several times a day
- Email is the most direct way to reach your audience
Email marketing is the best long-term investment with a much higher return than social media because people will continue to get their message at a very low cost for a longer period of time.
Three Things You Need to Build an Email List:
- A website or blog
- An email marketing service
- High-converting opt-in forms
In your email marketing strategy, the most important thing you should plan out is segmentation.
That means personalizing content to your subscribers – it is not about blanketing them with emails that do not pertain to them. That will only encourage unsubscribes.
People will take action on your emails only if they contain something that helps them achieve their goals.
One of the smartest things you can do to build your email list is to add gated content on your site. This is the content on your website that can’t be accessed until the visitor enters their email address. You can use plugins to hide some of your content or hide the entire blog post until the user enters their email address.
If you focus on the assets you own (i.e., your site, your content, your email list) versus land you rent (i.e., social media, public relations), you can rest assured you’ll have something secure upon which you can build.
And start that e-newsletter (with helpful, value-added content of course), if you haven’t already.
