I see so many people post content on social media that is self-promotional and all about themselves.
This is a big mistake when it comes to personal branding.
Supporting and promoting others – such as your colleagues, former colleagues and peers is so easy and well worth the time and effort.
Your connections don’t want to read posts about all of your great accomplishments and successes every day of the week.
You should build this into your weekly marketing strategy. I would keep a calendar of the people you would like to highlight and jot down notes about them.
Here’s how you can do it and in the process build stronger relationships that will benefit you.
- Like/share/comment on their social media posts
- Encourage others to follow them and let people know why you think their content is valuable
- Share their articles
- Congratulate them on their successes
- Refer someone their way when there’s an opportunity that may be a fit
Promoting others helps you promote yourself and is the right thing to do.
So think about how you can pay it forward to others. How can you shine a spotlight on individuals in your network? How can you support them more?
This is one of the fastest ways to build your network and a group of people who will support you.
What else would you add to the list? How do you support your professional network?
